There is a growing trend to switch over to wickless candles. Many do it
because the

not only warm the

, but also are a great decoration, adding to
the décor of the room. There are other reasons that you should consider
though for burning the wick out of your candles and switching to
wickless.
Dangers of Burning a Candle
We use to burn candles in our home all the time. We had an idea of some
of the dangers involved, but it seems flame candles can be more
dangerous then we first thought. Looking at a report from the National
Fire Protection Association Fire Analysis and Research Division, it is
clear just how deadly a flame candle can be. In the data that was
collected from 2005 thru 2009, they estimated that a burning candle was
the primary heat source for causing 12,800 house fires each year. Now,
that isn’t even the worst of it. The estimated 471 million dollars in
property damage isn’t even the worst of it, although that is a
devastating amount of money lost to a $5.00 flame candle. Even the fact
that 1041 people were injured due to these fires started by flame
candles is not even the worst of it. The worst part, each of those
years 136 people lost their lives because of burning a candle. On
average, 35 homes every day catch fire do to one of these candles. The
good news is that these numbers are declining.
Indoor Air Pollution from Candles
When it comes to smoking, I would never consider letting someone smoke
in my house. I do not care if it was 25 below zero outside, they will
not smoke in my house. Strangely though, I did burn candles in my home,
until recently. It is interesting what can be found in the smoke from a
burning candle. Some of the stuff released includes benzene, styrene,
toluene, acetone, particulate matter, and even some candles have wicks
made with lead.
What is that Black Stuff?
Most likely that is soot from burning a candle. This is becoming more
of a problem in the US as more and more people burn candles. The soot
gets on walls, furnature, windows, and anything else in the house. This
is becoming a real nightmare for real estate agents. The elderly,
infants, and those with breathing issues are the most effected by soot.
Studies on soot show it does have long lasting harmful effects on the
body and should be avoided.
What Makes Wickless Candles Better?
The use of a wickless candle can be much safer for the home and
environment. There is no open flame to worry about. The warmer uses the
heat from a low watt light bulb to heat and melt the wax. The wax is
designed to melt at a lower point. This lower melting point reduces the
chances of burns if it is accidently spilled. The wax also is not
burned, so it is not sending lots of harmful chemicals in to the air.
The heating of the wax causes the scent to be released filling your
home with a wonderful fragrance, instead of chemicals.
The lack of fire hazard and the lack of air pollution make the use of
wickless candles a much healthier and better alternative to the flame
candles. They are safe to use around little children, and those with
breathing problems, although you should still be careful about the
choice of scent. With over eighty

to choose from, finding the right one
shouldn’t be difficult.
Let me know in the comments why you made the switch from candles with
wicks to Scentsy wickless candles.
